We put the Crimpit in air fryer to the test, with some delicious air fryer pasties, as well as the Crimpit sandwich thins.
This is our results and what we personally loved about the Crimpit and whether its something we would use again in the air fryer.
If you are regularly on Facebook, then the chances are, that you have seen the ads for the Crimpit.
The idea that you can make delicious pasties, calazones, warm toasties and such like and then use the Crimpit to create the perfect shape before air frying.
I have had the same super cheap pasty maker for more than ten years, I am well overdue an upgrade and jumped at the chance to try out the Crimpit. I did so first with the sandwich thin version and then purchased the wrap version.
Today, I wanted to share with you all about the crimipt, crimpit in air fryer, how to use a crimpit and if you can use a crimpit without a microwave.
Beyond our recipes we are sharing with you today we have many recipes with wraps including…. Air fryer tortilla chips, air fryer slimming world sausage rolls, air fryer KFC twister, pie maker quiche, and of course air fryer taquitos.
A Crimpit, or as many people call it a Crimpit tool is a kitchen gadget accessory to shape your bread or your wraps.
You can get the sandwich thins version which is our favourite as well as the Crimpit wrap.
Just like a pasty maker or a empanadas, you add the pastry (or wraps or thins) and it perfectly shapes them ready for you to air fry.
We bought both the sandwich thins Crimpit and the wraps Crimpit from Amazon and with our prime membership received next day delivery.
Your Crimpit then comes in a cute box to keep it nice in between use.
Yes, we have experimented thoroughly with the Crimpit and felt it did a better job WITHOUT the microwave.
Using the microwave for the wraps was a surprise to us. When we read the instructions for the Crimpit for wraps it recommends a little microwave time to soften the wraps. But the wraps pressed down and shaped, then cook so perfectly in the air fryer its not necessary.
Yes you can use normal bread in a Crimpit. It’s all about the thickness of the bread, so if you are using a different bread product, roll it with the rolling pin to flatten it, if it is too thick.
With the Crimpits the easiest option is to layer your wrap or pastry or sandwich thin over the Crimpit.
But do so in a way that you don’t overfill the wrap and so that the wrap will fold over without all the filling leaking out. Just like when you are folding over a sandwich.
Then you transfer the just created Crimpit with its filling to the air fryer basket and air fry.
We have tried many different fillings and many different shapes and have found that our two favourites are a cheese and bean filling using the sandwich thins or making a wrap with a pizza style filling.
Though you might find your own Crimpit recipe that you love.
Wraps – We love Weight Watchers Wraps they are of the perfect size and if doing the Crimpit sandwich thin, then you can usually make two out of each WW wrap.
Filling – For Crimpit ideas I am sure we all have different ideas for perfect fillings. We love baked beans with cheese. It’s a simple cheap filling and its amazing how many you can make from one can of beans. You can of course do any pizza filling, or how about your favourite toastie filling?
And that is how easy Crimpits are to use and how you can follow our Crimpits air fryer recipe.
The recommend Crimpit air fryer time is JUST 6 minutes. This is based on cooking four of the Crimpit thin.
But if you are making Crimpit wraps in the air fryer instead cook for 6 minutes at 200c/400f because they are bigger.
For Crimpit air fryer temperature we recommend for the sandwich thins 180c/360f and then for the Crimpit wrap maker we recommend 200c/400f for an even crisp.
I find that if I am using the Crimpit sandwich thin and making cute little toasties from the wraps that I have an overhang.
What we do with the leftovers is air fry them and then we can turn them into air fryer tortilla chips and then use them for our instant pot tortilla soup. It is so good!
