There are quite a few options when choosing which cut of beef you like best when it comes to steaks, but my favorite steak by far is a filet mignon! The filet is tender, lean and full of flavor. When cooked correctly, it will slice like butter. It’s a nice, lean cut of beef, and is a great protein choice that not only tastes amazing, but is also a source of strength. Beef has nutrients, like high quality protein, iron, zinc and B-vitamins, which helps to ensure that myself and my family are getting enough healthy protein in our diets. I’ve teamed up with my friends at The Kentucky Beef Council to bring you these decadent Air Fryer Filets!

While grilling is usually my go to method for cooking steaks, it’s much more convenient to cook steaks indoors in my air fryer, especially when weather doesn’t permit outdoor grilling. Air fryers make cooking things like beef a snap because they cook food by circulating air around it like a convection oven. When cooking steaks, the result is a steak that is nice and charred on the outside, but juicy and delicious on the inside, which makes air frying steaks one of my new favorite things to do!

uncooked filets on a roasting pan with salt and pepper

For cooking filets in the air fryer, start by spraying each side of the steak with extra virgin olive oil, and generously salt and pepper each side.

Next, place the filets in your air fryer basket or grill plate if you air fryer is equipped with one. For the model of air fryer that I use, the Breville Smart Oven Air, I like to cook things like steak on a wire rack with a sheet pan underneath to prevent the drippings from making a mess…it’s totally not necessary though.

Preheat your air fryer to 375° F. Place in the air fryer and cook the first side for 10 minutes. Flip the filets and cook for an additional 5 minutes or until the steak reaches your desired doneness.

Remove the filets from the air fryer, tent with foil and let rest for 10 minutes before serving.

For steaks (1/2 inch or thicker, insert an instant-read thermometer horizontally from the side, so that it penetrates the thickest part or the center of the steak, not touching bone or fat.
For medium rare the temperature should read 145°F, the temperature for medium steaks should read 160°F, and well done is 170°F.
After cooking, let steaks rest before serving.
